Attorney General Supports Intervention in Wells College Case

New filings submitted in Cayuga County Supreme Court show that the New York State Attorney General has weighed in on the pending motions to intervene in the proposed sale of the Wells College campus.

In a letter brief dated March 20, 2026, the Attorney General’s Office urged the court to grant the motions filed by the Minerva Institute at Aurora and the Cayuga Nation, stating that both parties raise claims that share common questions of law and fact with the underlying action.

The filing further notes that courts may permit intervention where an interested party has a substantive stake in the outcome, and that allowing participation would not unduly delay proceedings or prejudice existing parties.

A copy of the Attorney General’s letter brief is included below for reference.

The motions to intervene remain under consideration as the court continues its review of the proposed sale.
